Musawa LGA farmers moobilsed to explore large scale rice production

WOFAN in an effort to ensure household food security partnered with CANDEL an agro-imput supplier, to mobilize Musawa LGA Farmers of Katsina State into large scale improved rice production. 

The Rice project was initiated trough an advocacy to the wife of Katsina State Governor Hajiya Fatimah I Shema Who endorsed the mission and immediately invited the Chairman of Musawa LGA to flag off the pilot project in His LGA.

 

 

 


 

The pilot rice project in Musawa presently enjoys the support of Musawa LGA chairman Dr Lawal Musawa and his Agric department as the host of the rice project. Musawa Rice project is presently working with a total of 115 direct beneficiaries including Women, Men and Youths. 50 Men are empowered by the project to produce at least one hectare of improved rice variety, while 40 Youths (Spray gangs) are empowered with Knapsack sprayers to aid in performing routine activities on rice farms, and 25 women empowered with cottage rice processing facilities. The specific objective of the rice project is to work closely hand in hand with Rice Farmers and Women processors to produce, Process, Bag and Brand MUSAWA Rice for the Market.
