 9th Middle East Businesswomen and Leaders Achievement Awards Honor WOFAN

08 March 2010- Dubai, UAE - The Middle East Excellence Awards Institute announced the recipients of the 9th Middle East Businesswomen and Leaders Achievement Awards at a special ceremony at the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai, UAE today.

Held annually, on the occasion of International Women's Day, 8th of March, the prestigious awards ceremony have become an integral part of the regional business calendar, celebrating the remarkable achievements of the region's successful women leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

Ali Al Kamali, Chairman of the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute said, "In today's global political and business environment, women have begun to enter all fields and attain positions of highest authority and leadership, bringing about radical changes in their communities and the social order. This prestigious award aims to pay tribute to the outstanding contributions of women trailblazers who made valuable efforts in inspiring and transforming the world with their indomitable willpower."

The chief guest for the event, Mr. Elballa Hagona, UNDP Resident Representative, presented the awards to the women achievers, applauding their remarkable achievements. Expressing his views on women empowerment, Mr. Hagona said, "Emarati women have made steady progress towards visible and active involvement in positions that were traditionally the sole preserve of men and therefore female emaratization must be motivated not by merely satisfying regulatory requirements such as quotas but rather by a genuine thrust towards integration of Emarati women and women empowerment in the private sector. "

The winners of the 2010 Middle East Businesswomen and Leaders Awards were:

 

  • Sports Media Woman of the Year - Raya Rammal, Dubai Sports TV, UAE.
  • Woman in Education Services Award - Dr. Jawhara Bint Fahd Al Saoud, University Director, Princess Nora Bint Abdul Rahman University
  • Society Development award - Khawla Saeed Al- Naboodah
  • Woman in a Technical Field - Alaa Al Harriri
  • Economic Policy and Knowledge Development Achiever Award - Dr. Amani Bouresli, Chairman Capital Standards Rating
  • Knowledge Management Development Award - Dr. Eiman Saud Abokhodair's, Institute of Public Administration- KSA
  • Sportswoman of the Year - Roqaya Al-Gassra- Bahrain

 

There were special awardees from Nigeria, who were honored for the following accomplishments:

  • Global Award for Peace and Empowerment - Her Excellency - Arc (Mrs.) Dooshima Suswam, First lady of Benue, Benue State.
  • Global Award for Peace and Empowerment - Her Excellency - Mrs. Oluwatoyin Saraki, First Lady of Kwara State, Kwara State.
  • Global Award for Peace and Empowerment - Her Excellency - Mrs. Sheila Uduaghan, First lady Delta state, Delta State.
  • Pace-Setter Award for Grassroots Mobilization & Empowerment - Queen Mother V. N. Ikenchuku, Ojeba of Agbor and Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Delta State.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award for receiving the Honorary Doctorate Award for Gender & sustainable development - Mrs. Hajia Salamatu Garba , EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR- WOMEN FARMERS ADVANCEMENT NETWROK- (WOFAN), NIGERIA .
