Wives of LG chairmen in Kano tasked on water, sanitation

The wife of the Kano state governor, Hajiya Amina Ibrahim Shekarau has called on the wives of the Kano state local government chairmen to support the efforts being made by the state government in providing portable and adequate water and sanitation in the state.

She charged them to ensure that their husbands become more responsible to the task of providing potable water to the people as well as ensuring sanitary environments in their communities and schools.Hajiya Amina spoke while declaring open a skills acquisition training programme organized for youths by her office in collaboration with the Women Farmers’ Advancement Network (WOFAN and Gender and Water Alliance (GWA) held at Daula Hotel Kano.She explained that the importance of water and sanitation in every society can not be overemphasized just as belittling their importance could tantamount to gambling with human lives She then charged the youths who are opportune to be amongst those to be trained on pump repairs, slap making and new method of growing beans during the dry season to pay maximum attention so that they could capture everything that would be taught to them.

 

ln his remarks the Managing Director (RUWASA), Alhaji Adamu Salisu said the essence of this training is for the state government in collaboration with the NGOs to make people at the grassroots realize the need to work for the betterment of their lives through their own personal effort.This he said is in line with the human development policy of the state government, because, according to him there cannot be human development when people don’t have access to clean water and environment Explaining the importance of the collaboration the national coordinator WOFAN who is also the focal person for Gender and Water Alliance in Nigeria Hajiya Salamatu Garba said it is all about the provision and sustenance of adequate and portable water, clean environment especially the provision of affordable toilets in rural communities and the schools.
